Toddlers have very high energy levels. And I'm sure all of you can relate and attest to this. How then do you take advantage of this energy to keep them learning?

Here are a few tips from parents and teachers to help give your child's brain a workout.
- Explore new surroundings. Head outside the house, take a walk around your neighborhood or visit a nearby park or playground. Personally, I like bringing my kid to the neighborhood playground to hang out and meet other toddlers. The location doesn't need to be a long drive, I tell you. It's (driving) just going to stress you out, Mommy, because the traffic in Manila is very unpredictable. So I suggest exploring surroundings nearby where you live.

- Engage children in gardening. Not only will this be an amazing bonding experience, it'll also enhance their fine motor skills! Oh and did you know that you also impart essential math skills, such as counting (counting seeds, counting leafs and petals) and Geometry (identifying shapes in the garden) when doing gardening with kids? I grow peppermint in my garden, which I tend to on a daily basis. And often, my toddler's helping me water the plants, or clean up the fallen leaves.
- Involve children in house cleaning. Teach your kids how to use the broom and dust pan. Teach them how to clean up their toys and throw garbage in the trash can. Sure, we can't expect for them to learn immediately how to do laundry or wash dishes but we can start by illustrating how these tasks are done, such as showing them how to wash the dishes.
- Read a book. The best way to keep your kids' reading skills sharp is to consistently read to them. I enjoy reading the Adarna House collections with my munchkin, which offers a book in 2 languages, Filipino and English. I have A Day in the Market and Ang Mabait na Kalabaw.

- Do crafts. There's a great collection of crafting with kids online. One of my personal projects was a Made Up Magnet Fish Pole, made with a stick, yarn and magnet. Cut up fish shapes in varying size and colors (great way to teach kids about color) and fasten with magnetic clips. Voila! Now, you can fish with your kid 😊.
